Chow Mein is a classic Chinese dish made with stir-fried noodles, vegetables, and meat. It is a popular street food in China and has gained popularity in many other countries as well. The dish is typically made with egg noodles, but you can also use rice noodles or wheat noodles, depending on your preference.
Here is a simple and easy-to-follow recipe for making your own Chow Mein at home:
8 oz chow mein noodles
1/2 lb boneless chicken breast or beef, sliced into thin strips
2 cups of sliced vegetables, such as bok choy, carrots, bell peppers, and onions
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tbsp vegetable oil
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp oyster sauce
1 tbsp hoisin sauce
1 tsp sesame oil
1 tsp sugar
Salt and pepper to taste
Cook the chow mein noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, sugar, and a pinch of salt.
Heat the vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat. Add the sliced meat and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes, or until it is cooked through. Remove the meat from the wok and set it aside.
Add the garlic and vegetables to the wok and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender but still crisp.
Add the cooked noodles and the sauce to the wok and stir-fry for 1-2 minutes, or until the noodles are coated in the sauce and heated through.
Return the cooked meat to the wok and stir-fry for an additional minute, or until everything is heated through.
Season with salt and pepper to taste, and serve hot.
